Document Camera - A Case Study

A number of schools across England were surveyed to investigate the ways in which they use Document Camera and the ways in which it has impacted on teaching, learning and work management.

Key Stages Covered
All key Stages were represented in participant schools. The majority, however, were in Key Stages 1 & 2.

Curriculum Subjects For which Document Camera was used
Document camera was used for Science, Maths, Design technology and ICT, Arts and English and MFL and Citizenship.

Document Camera: Teacher ratings.
Teachers were asked to rate the effectiveness of the document camera for a range of tasks:
Majority of Teachers used document camera for demonstrating process
Teachers also uses document camera for showing detail to the whole class,
Teachers also uses document camera for presenting pupil work
Teachers also uses document camera for integrating with other display technologies
Teachers also uses document camera for bringing creativity into the class

Range of Tasks for which document cameras are used
Teachers were asked to identify all the ways in which they used the document camera. In addition to projecting images to the whole class, teachers identified a number of other uses to which document cameras were put. Many teachers recorded images for future use and for creating curriculum materials. Teachers also use them for distributing images for school use, for pupil use and for creating animations.

Ease of Use
Majority of the teachers said that it took less than half a day to become familiar with and use document camera.

Impact on Teaching
Majority of The Teachers found document camera worth than its value. Whole-Class display was the most common use of document camera by the teachers.

Impact on Learning
The document cameras have been very motivating for the children.
