Types of Document Cameras

Do you want to know about types of document cameras? There are basically four types of  document cameras:-

Portable Document Cameras

Portable document cameras as the name suggests can be moved very easily between a number of different locations. It is excellent portable visualiser for teacher, trainer and presenter. Portable document cameras are compact in size and have a light weight construction as compared to standard document cameras. A portable document camera comes with a flexible goose neck column to which the camera lens is attached. This flexible goose neck column allows the presenter to carry the camera easily and to set it up even in locations with minimal workspace. Many models can even be folded up in protective carry cases, providing smooth and scratch free transportation.

Ceiling document cameras are as the name suggests designed to be mounted on or in a ceiling just like a multimedia projector. Once can use ceiling document cameras for conferencing rooms, meeting rooms, training rooms and classrooms where you have to hide the document camera. Since no work surface or table and cables are required, the interaction between presenter and audience is not disrupted. The zoom capability of a ceiling document camera's camera lens is generally much more advanced than those of portable document cameras or desktop document cameras because the distance between the ceiling document camera's camera lens and the object on the table or work surface is much greater. The positioning of object under ceiling mounted document cameras must be accurate in order for a proper view of image.

Desktop document cameras have larger work surface and are used on a desk or table. Unlike portable document cameras, they are heavy in weight and have fixed set up. One of prime benefits of desktop document cameras is their advance features and functions. The image quality of desktop document camera will range from SVGA to HDTV resolution. Another important feature of desktop document camera is that base stage has a backlight built with the help of which you can view transparencies similar to an overhead projector. The backlight size varies from a 35mm slide to A4 paper size. These types of document cameras also have a close up lens to focus and magnify 2D or 3D objects that are positioned very short distances away and vice versa. Some desktop document cameras have inbuilt small LCD screen (3 to 6 inches) that shows how the image will look like before being shown on TV or projection making it easier to focus and position the object at right place.

Whenever teacher, trainer and presenter have to conduct sessions with document camera, they need to carry both projector and document camera separately. The whole set up requires space and time.
